ISHPEMING---A PLACE FOR ALL SEASONS
Whether it's skiing or swimming; fishing or hunting, Ishpeming has it all.
Situated just 20 miles from the shores of Lake Superior and abundant salmon, lake trout and other game fish, Ishpeming sits in the middle of great inland lake and stream fishing where there are perch, bass, brook and brown trout, walleye, northern and muskellunge. Local sports shops are more than happy to help you out.
Not into fishing? How about visiting the Cliffs Shaft Mining Museum and experiencing the life of an Iron Miner or walk along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail and visit historical sites depicting the history of Iron Mining in this area. Stop at one of the Antique Shops and find that treasure you have been looking for. Afterwards, visit either Lake Bancroft Park of the Al Quaal Recreation area and enjoy a picnic or take advantage of the miles of walking trails and scenic Teal Lake.
If you visit later in the year you will have the opportunity to see nature in full color as the mix of conifers, hard woods and soft woods are at their spectacular best. The warm days and cool nights make this season invigorating and energetic. Its a great time to walk or ride a bike on one of the many trails in the area and experience nature at its best.
If you visit still later in the year you will experience another exciting season; winter. Ishpeming is the home of organized ski jumping and the National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. There are miles and miles of groomed cross country trails, a toboggan slide, hills for sledding and tubing and a rope tow for the downhill enthusiasts all within the Al Quaal Recreation Area. Snowmobile trails run through town and connect you with other communities and like the ski trails are well marked and groomed. If you are into ski jumping theis is the birthplace of that sport in the US and you can visit Suicide Hill or watch one of the jumping tournaments held there. Or you can just sit back and relax in a warm, comfortable room and watch the snow fall.
